In the area of tension between church and society, faith is discussed and transformed. We are right in the middle of it. St. Peter's is the place where we can reflect on the meaning of life as if we were tracing it for the first time. In a fascinatingly empty space. At the zero point of religion.
St. Peter's is more than 850 years old. Over the centuries, the first church building became a five-nave hall church, equipped with a rich baroque inventory. Until Palm Sunday 1942, when bombs fell on Lübeck. The church burned out, the roof and steeple were destroyed. St. Peter's remained a ruin for a long time.
In 1987, St. Peter's could be given a new purpose: To be an empty space for the church at the zero point of religion. An open space for art, culture, science and an experimental site for ritual, proclamation and dialogue.
