FilmNightAndacht:
"THE QUIET MIGRATION"
(Denmark 2023), Director: Malene Choi, 102 min. Danish OV, English subtitles
The camera glides across fields and cow pastures, the animals wait in the barn for their food. Carl and his father Hans are a well-rehearsed team at work on the farm in the Danish province. Later, they sit together at the kitchen table with a big appetite. Parents Hans and Karen are certain that their adopted son, who has South Korean roots, will one day take over the farm. While the observations of everyday life on the farm make an almost documentary impression, other scenes seem irritating. They seem to come from a different time. Or are they illustrated fantasies? Is that Carl, a young boy, playing football with a burning hay bale at night? At a family party, the young man feels strangely excluded. Suddenly he imagines a girl who, like him, is of a different origin. She puts her head on his shoulder. In her autobiographical feature film, Malene Choi explores the feeling of being a stranger in a familiar environment that has never become home.
The FilmNachtAndacht is a St. Petri format in cooperation with the Nordic Film Days. The film from last year's competition is an introduction to the upcoming film festival, which takes place this year from 6 to 10 November. The film screening will be accompanied by live music, texts and a commentary by Pastor Dr Bernd Schwarze, turning a film night into a film devotional.
Lennart Pries from the Lübeck University of Music will provide the musical framework with improvisations on motifs from the film.
