Overlaps between Art and Technology
Why shouldn't you be able to feel, move, arrange, or observe audio as you like? Why did Antonio Vivaldi write on paper? Does anyone still listen carefully to Clair De Lune, or do they feel it more?
The beginnings of interdisciplinary arts were directly influenced and evaluated differently by technology. Digital means of editing were found that were considered unimaginable just a few years ago - by now, this text could easily have been written by an artificial intelligence.
From March 19th to March 24th, around 60 European students and young professionals from the fields of research, media, culture, sound, and event technology come together at the Technical University of Lübeck for the European-funded project X-ARTS. The project explores topics such as artificial intelligence, immersive media, and the fusion of classical arts with state-of-the-art technology. Specifically designed for young professionals and students, the expert lectures and interactive workshops in this international training event help participants from Denmark, the Netherlands, France, and Germany to further develop their cross-media skills.
"I am thrilled to welcome international colleagues from Denmark, the Netherlands, and France to TH Lübeck. Together, we want to pass on our enthusiasm for immersive media to young artists and students, help them express themselves creatively and technically, and effectively utilize today's and future media possibilities in the market," says Prof. Dr. Isabella Beyer, leading the ERASMUS+ project X-ARTS at TH Lübeck.
All events will be conducted in English. Speakers include lecturers from the participating (music) universities - Syddansk Musikkonservatorium, Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Institut Musical de Formation Professionelle, and Technical University of Lübeck. Additionally, experts from the industry provide insights into the practical aspects of working with immersive and experimental media. Participants can be inspired by presentations that combine artificial intelligence, art, and culture, and explore various combinations of perception, self-representation possibilities, and artist rights.
For those interested in discovering the intersections between technology and culture, public events are also offered.
On Thursday, March 23rd, Guillaume Damerval (General Manager at SPEDIDAM) & Marc-Olivier Deblanc (Founder of BARNETT) will present an exciting expert lecture on copyright issues at the Bauforum of TH Lübeck from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop, moderated by French jazz artist and composer Pierre Bertrand, aims to inform participants about protecting their rights in the context of new technologies, Web 2.0, and Web 3.0. The experts will equip participants with valuable tools to strengthen their artist rights in the new digital landscape.
X-ARTS in Concert - On Thursday, March 23rd, at 7:30 p.m., a free concert by the German-French CLASSICAL BEAT Orchestra with the Big Band formation will take place at the Bauforum of TH Lübeck, under the musical direction of French jazz saxophonist, flutist, and composer Pierre Bertrand. The concert's uniqueness lies in the fusion of music, dance, and digital visualizations, representing the merging of technology and art.
X-ARTS in Exhibition - On Friday, March 24th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the participants and speakers of the workshops will present their workshop results during the X-ARTS EXHIBITION at St. Petri Church in Lübeck. The visit to the exhibition, concert, and expert lecture is free, and no registration is required.
X-ARTS: About the Project - Since March 2022, the TEDMA European education project has been developed under the leadership of Stiftung Neue Musik-Impulse, involving educational institutions and event organizers. After preparing a training concept presented during the Kick-Off event "INTERSECTIONS" in Groningen, the conceptual themes will be brought to life during the X-ARTS workshops from March 19th to 24th, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Isabella Beyer. The combination of technology and art - whether immersively, visually, or with the involvement of electronics in classical art - allows both viewers and performing artists to have more (perceptual) possibilities in presenting their art. These techniques not only expand the arts but also offer easier access to art, enhance self-directed learning, and reveal talents. Does the relevance of human interaction - the social component - still exist when it comes to performing and creating a changed perception of arts? With The European Digital Music Academy, the Academy of Stiftung Neue Musik-Impulse aims to set new impulses and develop recommendations for the future relevance and inclusion of digital arts in education. It is already confirmed that the results will be experienced during the CLASSICAL BEAT Festival at Travemünder Woche in a large 360° dome.
