"And music is so made, that one dances and sings and laughs."
The year 2025 has been designated the Year of the Voice, and in this spirit, the University Choir of Lübeck, under the direction of Chiara Perneker, has chosen two works for the summer semester to celebrate the "instrument" of the year in song.
On July 11, 2025, at 8:30 PM in St. Petri, the choir will perform the festive and contrasting Mass in D major by Antonín Dvořák, together with students from the Lübeck University of Music. Originally composed for a smaller choir and organ, the mass was later expanded into an orchestral version, transforming it into a beloved work for larger ensembles. A unique feature of this evening's performance is that the solos will be sung by members of the choir itself, with four singers per voice part.
The University Chamber Choir will also transport the audience into fascinating soundscapes: Ode à la Musique, a work by Swiss composer Frank Martin, stands out with its distinctive musical language and will be performed together with baritone soloist Friedrich Hagedorn and an unusual instrumental ensemble.
The University Choir of Lübeck was founded in 1987 by Eva-Maria Salomon during a memorial service organized by students of the Lübeck Medical University. The ensemble is open to students, staff, and alumni of Lübeck's universities.
