Reading in the evening

For the fifteenth and final time, a week of favorite stories with music will once again take place this summer at the Petrikirchhof. From June 23 to 27, starting each evening at 8:30 p.m., people from Lübeck will read aloud from their favorite books in the warmth of the setting sun, as listeners enjoy the arrival of nightfall with literature, music, and a good glass of wine.

Once again, young and young-at-heart Lübeckers will take a seat in the cozy reading chair and share personally selected stories. Each of the five evenings will be shaped by two readers and a musician, choir, or ensemble. The open-air readings last about an hour. Only in case of bad weather will the event move indoors to the church of St. Petri.

A moment of surprise is always part of the experience: which stories the readers have chosen will only be revealed during the event itself. “It’s precisely this element of the unknown that sparks curiosity and gives the event its special charm,” says Dr. Hanna Petersen, who organizes and hosts the evenings.

Those with time and interest are welcome to stay before or after the readings to enjoy the offerings of the St. Petri Café or to purchase the featured books at the Langenkamp bookstore and Prosa bookstore stands. Admission is free.
