"Solo Verbo" is Latin and means "solely through the word." Under this title, a series of theological speeches by Pastor Dr. Bernd Schwarze has been running for more than ten years at St. Petri in Lübeck. Aspects of the Christian creed are critically examined and assessed for their relevance to everyday life.
This spring, the series will conclude with three themed evenings on life, eternity, and the Amen. In a deliberately simple spatial design, the focus is placed on listening. The speech is accompanied by readings of short religious, philosophical, and literary texts. The vocal ensemble Viva Voce will perform sacred and secular pieces related to the themes of the evenings.
"From Eternity to Eternity" is the title of the penultimate evening, taking place on Wednesday, May 21, at 7 p.m. Eternity and infinity are concepts that surpass human imagination. Yet religion repeatedly speaks of eternity. Is eternity infinite time, or a state beyond space and time? Where does the longing for eternal life come from, and is such a life even conceivable in light of the modern worldview?
St. Petri invites you to 45 minutes of religious philosophy for listening and further contemplation. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.
