"Solo Verbo" is Latin and means "solely through the word." Under this title, a series of theological speeches by Pastor Dr. Bernd Schwarze has been held at St. Petri in Lübeck for more than ten years. Aspects of the Christian creed are critically examined and assessed for their relevance in everyday life.
This spring, the series will conclude with three themed evenings on life, eternity, and the "Amen." In a deliberately simple spatial design, the focus is placed on listening. The speech is accompanied by readings from short religious, philosophical, and literary texts. The vocal ensemble Viva Voce will perform sacred and secular works related to the themes of the evenings.
On Wednesday, April 30, at 7:00 PM, the topic will be "On Life and Praise." The biblical worldview describes earthly life as creation—intended, yet limited. It focuses on human life and its needs. To what extent does such a perspective on life still hold relevance in light of scientific insights and evolving interpretations of existence? Is life, in the face of suffering and mortality, worthy of praise? Does the praise of life require a transcendent, divine addressee?
St. Petri invites you to 45 minutes of religious philosophy for listening and further contemplation. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.
